Poke weed is toxic, don’t eat it, but the berries make a great natural ink! Collect them around August/September when they’re fruiting, take a mesh strainer, pt it over a bowl, put the berries into the strainer and mash em up, allowing the juice to filter through into the bowl. Then add a splash of vinegar to the juice to thin it out enough to make ink and there you go! Completely natural ink. Would make pretty special ink for a Book of Shadows or grimoire.
Actually, you CAN eat the leaves of the poke weed, and be completely and 100% OK, except you have to do it at a certain time of year, and only when the leaves are a certain size. Otherwise they become toxeic, and you can get seriously sick. Also, don’t EVER try to ear the berries…
