Hey tumblr I was wondering if you could tell me what these are? I found them on my walk this morning. All I can guess are that they are seed pods from a tree.

I remember them having a tie to witchcraft. Witch’s something? I’m not sure.

They’re called witch burs but are properly sweet gum burs. They can be hung above the bed to avert nightmares “from sitting on you” and over the front door to keep away haints. Cut the stem off and break a piece into it, load it with blessed salt, red brick dust, etc. then seal with wax.

I have them hanging in my ritual space to protect against any ill-willed spirits. I didn’t actually know their name or use in magic but I figured they’d work that way 🤷🏼‍♂️
