For how long you leave out the offerings??? And anyone else feel kinda guilty then removing/eating them??
I would say it depends on you and the deities in question. Some entities like you to leave their stuff alone (like certain wights), others don’t mind if you eat the offerings. I see it more as sharing a meal with the deities and thus strengthening my relationship with them, but there are exceptions.
I tend to throw out the offerings I don’t eat because it’s not practical to leave them outside.
Putting this here because if you’ve ever wondered what the hell people do with physical offerings, the notes on this offer some pretty good answers. Whether you’re thinking of eating it, disposing of it, leaving it outside, donating it, etc. etc. it’s always good to take into account what kind of offering it is and what makes sense for the deity or spirit you’re offering it to.
Also a good rule of thumb is to let the
Deities know what and why your doing something with their offerings.
“I am leaving your offering out for an hour but then I have to clean up because my roommate is coming home.”
“I’m cleaning this up so that it doesn’t get moldy”
“I would like to leave this bean burrito for you but I’m poor and need to eat it so please understand and feel free to share it with me.”
Of course there may be exceptions but in my experience your intention behind the offering matters just as much to most deities. As long as you are respectful most deities will not mind what you have to do with their offerings as long as you’re up front about it!
In my practice, I put offerings out in the morning, then retrieve them in the evening and incorporate any edibles into dinner. This is why my offerings are rice, salt, water, and sake (“rice wine”) for the most part.
