– Tightly roll your clothes when you pack them instead of a standard fold. This is what I always refer to as “military packing”, because it’s how my dad learned to pack in the army. It allows you to fit more in your bags.
– Do not forget toiletries, those who have periods make sure you grab your products as well, you do not know how long you’ll be gone or if you’ll have the availability to get more. Unscrew the lids to things like shampoo or anything that might leak and place plastic wrap over the opening (ziplock bags work as well), then screw the lid back on, this will prevent any leaking.
– Grab all prescription medication and EPI Pens, it is also a good idea to pack any NASIDs (ibuprofen and other anti-inflamatory mediciation),and allergy medication like claratin, zyrtec, or benadryl. Grab any emergency medical kits in your house and make sure they have bandages, gauze, sanitizing wipes, and neosporin. If your box is big enough, pack a small sewing kit, a lighter, a ball of steel wool, a 9 volt battery, a swiss army knife, and small food bars like protein bars or granola bars.
– Grab all personal documents, IDs, passports, SS cards, birth certificates, insurance cards, including car insurance, legal documents including marriage licences and tax papers. If available place these in large ziplock bags to keep them safe from getting wet or dirty.
– Grab all family heirlooms, photographs, gold and other valuable jewelry, diplomas, and other irreplaceable items.
– Pack power banks and charging cords
– Most shelters only allow service animals, please find lodging for your pets, make sure collars and name tags are secured and that you’ve entered your information on their chips, pack food for your animals as well. DO NOT ABANDON YOUR ANIMALS
– Withdraw cash from your bank, grab check books, take your wallets and purses and make sure your cards are in them.
– It is getting colder. Pack hats, gloves, scarves, water proof coats, lots of socks and underwear, water resistant boots.
– Pack plenty of water, non perishable and ready to eat foods, manual can opener. Also bring flashlights
– if you have infant children pack baby formula, even if you normally breast feed
Remember to stay safe, do not panic. Do not drive recklessly, many people are trying to find a safe place, bad driving will only cause accidents which will slow down evacuation routes more. Stay safe friends.
Things to bring that are optional but will make your life easier:
– Laundry detergent, to not underestimate the comfort of being able to have clean clothes
– Pillows, Blankets, Sheets.
– Books, Tablets downloaded with games and movies, Laptops and portable game consoles
– Back up hard drives
– Stuffed animals and children’s toys
– Clothes line and clothes pins
– Large plastic storage bins ( double as a place to keep your stuff and to use as a wash basin )

THIS IS IMPORTANT ‼️‼️‼️
I live in Montana, where there are over a million acres of fire consuming our forests and homes. We have to go pretty slow where the fires are close by because animals are running to the other side. Please don’t harm them – they’re trying to find some safety in these stressful times.

Update: my county is now under a state of emergency. My parents are not yet aware of this, but I’m afraid they will decide to stay here anyway when I tell them. We’ll see
Does anyone know what type of tree this might be from? Most of the bark peeled off but I tried to get pictures that showed the remaining bark

Where I live, Irma is likely to hit. I don’t know how severely, because news has been wildly switching at a 50/50 rate between category 1 and category 3. If it’s category three, we’re probably fucked. The county directly next to mine has called for evacuation, but since our county has not (not that I expect them to. They’re the last to do anything, if they do it at all.) my parents have decided they don’t want to deal with evacuation traffic to go to Atlanta where it will be safer, and would rather stay here. And they have not really done anything at all to prepare for this? I asked about getting water and my father said my grandmother has some, and since she’s staying with us we’ll take the water she bought to last one person and, I guess, just make it last for six people. I asked about food, and my father said we have plenty of frozen meat, which will rot if (but I’m banking on when) the power goes out. We have no canned food. We have a grill (which my dad would theoretically cook our hopefully-not-rotten-meat on) and, I think, two whole flashlights. Luckily, my mother and I are such candle fanatics that we have plenty of candles, but I much prefer flashlights. Whatever. Beggars can’t be choosers. And I certainly did not choose to stay where I currently am. Plus, all my friends (except possibly one family) will be evacuating, so it’s not like we could call on their actually responsible asses them.
Now, despite my angry rant I just wrote, I actually do want to make the best of this. We went through Hurricane Matthew last year, and we lost power for five days. Not having electricity and trying to ration phone time and losing everything in our fridge sucked. But besides that, we had my grandmothers over, and we let my mother’s coworker and her boyfriend stay with us because their city evacuated. I had no excuses not to spend time with my friends. I was surrounded by friends and family the duration of the aftermath, and it was honestly very soothing and peaceful, since most people had evacuated or were staying inside with their own families. My town was practically a ghost town, but there was no light pollution blocking the stars, I went outside more, I laughed more, hell, I felt more like a person. And we made the best out of that shitty situation and I honestly remember it fondly.
Of course, I won’t have any of my friends with me. My mother’s coworker (who’s a good family friend now) will not be staying with us either. I won’t have that backbone. I’m more scared now, we have more to lose, this whole situation is already soaked in tragedy, but I will try to make the best of it. I’ll be forcing my parents to make better preparations tomorrow, and hopefully the stores will be more empty since most people are evacuating and will be gone already/in the process of leaving. I rediscovered my love for reading at the beginning of August, and I have plenty of books to keep me company. Like I said before, we have plenty of candles. I’m going to try to bury myself in reading and painting and maybe even writing. I’m going to try and become more in tune with myself, and progress my witchcraft in ways I might not be able to with the distraction of electronics and social media. I might be on every once in awhile to check in, but I’ll mostly use it to check the news or keep it off to reserve battery. If you don’t hear from me in the coming days, the power went off, and I’m doing what I’ve said above. Sorry for this pseudo-rant, I just needed to get out my frustrations so I could come to that hopeful conclusion. if you read all of this, kudos to you!
Stay safe, y’all.

Uhm, hey, I am a confused newbie with tons of questions. Can you please reblog/like this if I can bother you with them?
Hey! Also if you’re evacuating and want to know if the food in your fridge/freezer is okay when you come back freeze a cup of water then before you leave put a coin on top of the frozen water, if you come back and the quarter has sunk in the ice it means your power went off, your food unfroze, then refroze, which I’m sure we all know it’s like unsafe to defrost food then refreeze. Just a thing my dad told me as I was packing to leave my dorm at school
Dreaming tip:
If you feel like someone or something is messing with your dreams and you’d like it to stop take a few moments before going to bed and visualize yourself walking through a door into your dreams and locking it behind you.
You can do a simple or a complicated lock but the important part is locking your dreams up to only you.
