Meditation for the Wild-Minded Witch

inkcraft:

do you have ADHD? are you easily distracted? do you daydream constantly abt everything and anything? when you hear the words “you might fall asleep” in a post abt meditation, do you sigh and roll your eyes?

if you answered “yes” to any of the above, then this is the post for you!!

as someone who has type one ADHD and a crazy imaginative mind, I haven’t seen a single Intro To Meditation post that pertains to me. they’re always abt tips for visualization, or tips for not falling asleep within 5 minutes. I have insomnia you guys, I ain’t gonna be asleep in any less than 2 hours smh

without further rambling, here’s some tips and tricks for people who just can’t fucking meditate

1) listen to some goddamn music. preferably stuff you’ve listened to many times before, songs you have basically memorized so you don’t get distracted by how unique this new sound is, or how cool that voice was right there. listen to your favorites!! listen to songs in foreign languages, so you aren’t focused on the words but more the feeling they give. blast that shit through your most comfortable earbuds, tune everything else out

2) don’t sit outside. trust me. too many extra sensory bits and shit that you just don’t need rn. miss me with that wind and bugs and prickly grass.

3) tired of the “visualize a door” method? visualize yourself dancing! find one good dance song that you’ll only use when trying to meditate, and choreograph your own little routine! imagine urself dancing outside on a chilly autumn day- the air smells crisp and the leaves crack and almost hurt beneath your feet and every once in a while your arms hit a twig or branch. imagine it’s spring and there’s cold dew on the soft new grass and the sun is making your bare arms tingly, a warm breeze tugs at your hair and clothes. get creative! the hardest part is imagining yourself *in* your body, looking out, instead of watching urself dance like it’s a movie.

4) sit in the car!! oh my god!! do this!! the passenger seat of the car opens a world of possibilities, and you probably won’t even have to close your eyes because damn, look at you, you’re already off daydreaming abt god knows what and completely ignoring everything around you!! if cars are good for anything, it’s daydreaming. now all you gotta do is figure out how to switch your daydreaming off and turn meditating on.

5) school age witch? meditate in the morning on the bus. if you trust the other kids riding with you enough, do it on the way home too (warning: may suddenly find urself interrupted by flying paper balls or gross laughing. this is why we meditate in the mornings when everyone’s half asleep still)

6) it’s okay if a stray thought drifts in every once in a while, so don’t get upset over it.

7) your leg bouncing? scalp itch? eye twitching? keep bouncing it! scratch your head! rub your eyes!! trying to ignore these things will take more effort than it will to just take care of them. make sure youre comfortable

8) extending on that point, if you find your overall position uncomfortable, just move dude. it’s okay, just cause you aren’t laying with ur arms at ur sides and legs perfectly straight doesn’t mean you won’t get some meaningful meditation in

I was hoping to get 10 points but I’m suddenly lacking motivation and getting bored with typing this. guess that’s the proof for you that I have ADHD? I hope these help! feel free to add on your own tips for meditation! and like always, don’t beat urself up if nothing seems to be helping. I’ve been trying for three years and I still struggle very much to meditate, and be confident that what I’m seeing isn’t just my Wild Wild imagination, and is instead the astral or whatever else I’m looking for. take your time, and good luck! ✨🌊🥀

Can you practice Hoodoo if you’re white? I have a very tiny history of black in my ancestry so I’m obviously not considering myself black, in native and white. But I’ve seen a lot of white Hoodoo practitioners and not so many voodoo or Vodoun (for obvious reasons). Since hoodoo is a practice and not a religion, is it closed off for only black people?

hoodooyousee:

This is a question I get all the time and I’ve always been hesitant to answer. However, I think it’s time I do so. I guess I don’t understand why if you truly understood hoodoo, you’d want to practice it.

Hoodoo was created out of slavery, in attempt to protect and preserve ourselves. It is a blend of African magic and traditions, and Christianity because it was forced on us by our oppressors. A lot of true hoodoo is what the west (i.e. Wicca, high magick) would say is “dark” spells. Goofer dust, jack balls, hot foot powder were used against enemies yes, but that largely included white people.

If you do your research and you know what to look for several slave accounts and memoirs talk about “working the root” on their masters or some will talk about the “poisoning” of their masters, or finding a packet of sticks and herbs and people falling ill, some even dying.

The ingredients we use in hoodoo are practical because they HAD to be versatile. One did not buy honey for a jar, they just had it on hand. That’s why so much of hoodoo is dirt, herbs, sticks, and kitchen supplies like sugar and honey. It’s baffling to me why you’d be interested in a practice that was born out of protecting ourselves against the brutality of racism and colonialism. ESPECIALLY when there are so many European traditions that are folk too. That also use dirt. That also use bones and household goods. So why hoodoo? Why practice something born out of black resistance? Why call on a tradition and spirits colonialism tried its best to beat out of us?

Anyway this is the last time I’ll answer this question because I feel like it’s self explanatory. I can’t stop you from practicing no matter what your skin color is and I don’t wish to. However if you’re non black I invite you to truly ask yourself why you’re so interested in hoodoo specifically vs other non black traditions that probably use very similar things and approaches. I write all kind of spells, not just hoodoo, and invite anyone and everyone to use them. Folk magick is not exclusively hoodoo so there are plenty of other spells on my blog and tips that can be used (:

Corians

spiritconnect:

image

Corians are spirits who come from another dimension’s realm and are the embodiments of ink and color.

Appearance:

  • Corians look mostly like humans, but colorful.
  • Each individual can take a specific animal form, as well.
  • Each individual is a different color, and said color usually manifests in their hair, eyes, and skin. They tend to dress in their color as well.
  • There is a separate clan of Corians that consists of grey/black shaded individuals, they sometimes are mistaken for shadow people.

Characteristics:

  • Due to being made out of ink, Corans are resistant and do not take physical damage in fights.
  • However, for the same reason, water is extremely dangerous for them, for they dissolve in contact with it.
  • Their ink can be toxic if they so desire. Staining can be poisonous, and may or may not be permanent. This only happens when there is intention.
  • Corians live long lives, being 200 ~ 500 earth years is still a young age for their kind.
  • They live in society.
  • The act of “consuming” one another is not unusual in their culture, specially as an act of love and devotion. Two or more individuals will become one, mixing their colors together. Separation is possible, although difficult.
  • That is also a method of domination, and a crime when done against one’s will.

Offerings:

Corians are quite hard to encounter or bumb into as they prefer not to leave their home realm, but just in case, they might enjoy:

  • Things in their respective color
  • Rainbow themes
  • Reflective surfaces
  • Ink
  • Paintings
  • etc.

hereticalapothecary:

Sometimes I make the mistake of believing there’s something spiritual happening when the truth is, shit happens.

For example, I applied for a job that I felt really good about. Turns out, they really wanted to hire me but couldn’t justify it/no positions available for me. They weren’t able to add someone else to payroll.

I’ve racked my brain for excuses. Maybe I didn’t worship a deity correctly, maybe some nasty spirit is messing with my life, maybe someone got mad at me and tried to curse me (intentionally or not) or anything.

Because if it’s spiritual, I can fix it. I can make an offering, do a curse breaker, etc. It won’t change what has happened, but it certainly provides a certain amount of comfort believing some sort of external force is oppressing me or fighting me that I can fight back against.

The truth is, sometimes shit just happens. My resume was great and the lady recommended me to another place. But they just couldn’t afford to hire a new person. That isn’t a personal failing or a spiritual mess, it’s just the reality of job hunting.

No matter how many spells you do, sometimes life just sucks. And sometimes bad things happen. Not everything has a spiritual reason behind it. And not every spell will protect you from bad things that just happen sometimes.

Shit happens. All you can do is just make the best of it.Â
