If you need to evacuate hurricane Florence or you are staying put

Pick a town now and let hotels know you are evacuating from Florence. This works for every problematic hurricane. It usually doesn’t matter how many indoor pets you have, it just depends on the hotel. Most hotel brands will accept more than 2 dogs and cats for hurricane evacuees.

If you have horses and cows and you are on the outskirts, remember the last cat 3 that hit florida to the carolinas? A mass death of farm animals died from flooding and wind. Help them get to higher ground and better land by asking farms in out of evacuation zones to let you use their land to keep your animals.

Hurricane Florence is a CAT 4 by the time it reaches not land, but the warm waters off our coast. It will only gain more energy the longer it stays on the water. There is always a possibility for a CAT 4 to experience CAT 5 symptoms like wind, rain, and surging without becoming a CAT 5. If you are staying put, stay put in your house where the walls are strongest. Make sure you are near the safest bathroom in case of inner storm tornado activity or structure failure. Keep all leashes on you and pets near you. If you have pets that will hide, block off their access to their hiding places. Keep their stuff just as accessible as you will your stuff.

BUY WATER NOW. BUY HURRICANE FOOD NOW. BUY BATTERIES. GET A FLASHLIGHT. DO ALL OF THIS NOW. If you are in a possible flood zone and have a small enough raft that will fit out windows, KEEP IT ON THE HIGHEST FLOOR OF YOUR HOUSE. If you are in an apartment complex in a flood zone, you need to leave. No acceptions.

Park your cars somewhere with cameras like a bank parking lot. They’ll be safer if you have trees near your home. If you have a boat in your driveway, MOVE IT AWAY.

If you have the ability, slice trees near your place that have you worried.

KEEP ALL DOORS SHUT TO BEDROOMS. If a window breaks, the pressure won’t change the rest of the house this way.

Take your pets outside on a leash when you feel it is safe enough for all of you. The eye of the storm is good for this but that can be a days worth of rain and wind. The wind isn’t always constant. Keep an eye on it and get them down there on leashes as soon as you hear it stop. You will hear the wind coming back before you see it or feel it. Be close to a door when you do this.

If you have access to a radio, use it. Put it on a station for weather. It’ll warn you of possible tornadoes in the area. A safe key though is anyone in yellow-red-purple on the radar, is in tornado alley. Keep a close eye on the sky. Don’t go to sleep.

I’m serious about shopping now. The stores will run out of food today or yesterday. Get enough water for everyone. Get bandaids too.

Get a full tank of gas too. It will run out quickly and take the gas stations days to come back. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to get an extra gallon of gas if you are leaving the area as you will find this on your way out too.

Good luck and stay away from the sea and the miles of where storm surge could occur. If you are on the coast but inland on a marsh, the surge and flooding will affect you. And they will affect you even more during high tide. The marsh can absorb a ton, but it can’t absorb this much.

Fill your bathtubs for extra water and to flush toilets. Freeze water to keep food cool. Document EVERYTHING IN YOUR HOUSE to claim for insurance if necessary. Take all important documents and keep them with you in water proof bags.

If you trust your dishwasher, put items you love in it. It’s not fully waterproof as plumbing, once backed up, will enter through the hose at the back. But if you don’t mind that and would rather be able to keep things you love with you, store them in there. You can even do jewelry in jars with lids without them floating away if you are worried about that. If you have a safe, USE IT AND ABUSE IT.

Remember, hurricanes also mean people will come in and loot! So while you are gearing up to leave, keep this in mind for objects you are leaving behind.

witch tip

in my eyes, any type of self care is witchcraft. taking a shower? a literal and metaphorical cleansing ritual. making food? kitchen witchcraft, obviously. drawing? it’s like a really complex sigil thats purpose is to calm you down and clear your mind. making tea? potions. lying in bed all day binging your favourite show on netflix? a day of recharging your soul. don’t ever feel guilty for not doing complex spells all the time. you’re a witch – everything you do is inherently witchy.

this is exactly what i’ve been doing for the past few months! college has taken over my life and sometimes i feel so out of it with my craft –one of the reasons i stopped posting on here– and thoughts like these are the reason i still feel connected to my witchiness. so simple yet so powerful.

Appalachian Folklore, Wives Tales, and Superstitions

kindigo:

get-out-me-grimoire:

ohthewitchery:

Brought to you mostly by my grandparents, but also by my family at large. These are all things I heard growing up in the northern region of Appalachia and wanted to share with y’all. The lore and sayings may vary based on location, family tradition, and other factors, but this is just what I’m sharing from my experiences!

• Give the first pinch of a freshly baked loaf of bread to the Good Men to keep them happy.
• Deaths and births always come in threes.
• Spin around in a circle three times before you walk in the front door to confuse any spirits that are following you.
• Don’t throw your hair out! If a bird builds a nest with it, you’ll have migraines.
• “Red sky at night, sailor’s delight. Red sky at morning, sailor’s warning.”
• If the leaves on trees are flipped over with their backsides showing, rain’s coming.
• If you hear a dog howl at night, death is coming.
• If you’re giving someone a wallet or purse as a present, put money in it to ensure they’ll never financially struggle.
• Spirits can’t cross running water.
• Cats and dogs won’t enter a room where spirits are present.
• Carry an acorn in your pocket for good luck, a penny for prosperity, and a nail for protection.
• If you’re having nightmares, put a Bible under your pillow. They’ll go away.
• Take a spoonful of honey to keep your words sweet.
• Keeping a pot of coffee on ensures a happy home.
• It’s bad luck to walk over a grave.
• A horseshoe hung above a door ensures good luck.
• A horseshoe in the bedroom staves away nightmares.
• If your right hand itches, you’ll soon be receiving money. If the left itches, you’ll be paying it.
• Wishing on a star works. “Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight. I wish I may, I wish I might, have the wish I wish tonight.”
• When you have a random shiver, someone just walked over your grave.
• If smoke from a fire rises, expect clear skies. If it rolls along the ground, expect storms.
• Rosemary near the door provides protection. Lavender provides peace.
• “A ring around the sun or moon, rain or snow is coming soon.”
• Wind chimes and bells keep spirits away.
• Seeing a cardinal means unexpected company.
• For that matter, so does dropping silverware.
• Rubbing a bit of potato on a wart helps it to go away.
• If the soles of your feet itch, you will soon walk on strange grounds.
• Black eyed peas, greens, and/or pork and sauerkraut should be eaten on New Year’s Day to welcome good luck and good fortune.
• Driving a nail into a bedframe or crib will drive away curses.
• If your ears are burning, someone’s talking about you.
• If you dream of fish, you are or will soon be pregnant.
• Listen to the wisdom of children, they see and know more than we think.
• To dream of death means birth, to dream of birth means death.
• To cure a headache, crush some mint leaves in your hands, cup them over your mouth and nose, and breathe in a few times. It should help.
• Placing a fern or ivy on the front porch protects against curses.
• In a vegetable garden, never plant the same plants in the same spot two years in a row. Rotate where they are, and you’ll save your soil. (Note: this is a real thing called crop rotation, and is actually kind of important)
• A black bird (Raven or crow, doesn’t matter) on the roof or a windowsill is an omen for death. To avoid it, you have to scare it away without using your voice before it caws.
• Say a prayer when you pass a coal mine for the lost souls still in the mine.
• Thank the land and the Lord with every successful hunt or harvest you have, for nothing is guaranteed.

These are a few of the folklores, wives’ tales, superstitions, and sayings that I’ve heard growing up (and still living in) in Appalachia! I encourage other Appalachian witches, cunning folk, and general inhabitants of the Appalachian region (and just the mountain range at large) to share whatever bits you’ve heard over the years!

I just wanted to share a bit with y’all to give you an insight into some Appalachian lore, my own practice, and maybe give you some things to research and incorporate into your own practice! 🌿✨

Being from this area I have heard almost everyone of these, never realized they were local.

To add to the post

  • Never pick up a coin (especially a penny) if it isn’t heads up
  • Hold your breath when you pass a cemetery
  • throw salt over your left shoulder for good luck but never spill it

“Red sky at night, sailor’s delight. Red sky at morning, sailor’s warning.”
FACT. Weather systems generally move west to east. A red sunset is caused by dust particles in the atmosphere, indicating dry weather headed your way. The red in the eastern sunrise, however, indicates that the dry weather is seeing itself out.

If the leaves on trees are flipped over with their backsides showing, rain’s coming.
FACT. High humidity before wet weather makes the stems of deciduous trees floppy and limp, so they often get blown over in pre-storm weather.

If smoke from a fire rises, expect clear skies. If it rolls along the ground, expect storms.
FACT. Storms are caused by low pressure atmosphere systems, which by their nature cause smoke to hang low instead of rising. It also causes birds to swoop and fly low to the ground, which is another true weather-predicting bit of folklore.

“A ring around the sun or moon, rain or snow is coming soon.”
FACT. Sun- and moon-halos are caused by light refracting off ice crystals in the high altitude clouds that usually come before a rain or snowfall.

Makes you wonder what other bits of folklore will be validated by advances in science.

hello buddy! How are you? I have a question. Do you think any witch could charm a notebook so that everything written on it would come true?

ouroboricflow:

sorcierarchy:

hey! I’m doing pretty good, thanks for asking 😀

The shorter answer: no.

The understanding that I work under is that magic is one force that operates in the world, but on the physical plane we’re also operating under the laws of physics. You need to have a physical path for something to manifest in the physical world, and you can use a combination of physical/magical force (etc, depending on the “construct” you’re working with) to make that happen.

The issue is twofold: the term “any” witch, and the term “everything” written.

I’ll give a concrete example to make this easier: Your intent is to manifest $100 in the next couple days and you don’t have any paycheques coming or anything like that.

The more pathways you have to make that happen, the more likely it is to happen by “physical” means, and the less “magic” force you will need to apply. If you have a job that offers bonuses, maybe you’ll get one in the next couple days. If you have a side-business, maybe you’ll see a big order come in for that amount from a new customer. If you have a grandma that randomly gives you money sometimes, maybe she’ll have the sudden urge to send something in the mail. If you have 0 pathways for something to manifest, all of the force that needs to be applies to get this $100 in the next couple days needs to be magical. That’s going to be a lot harder for any witch, but the more experience, talent, etc they have the better their chances of achieving that result.

I hope that answers your question! Have an awesome weekend 🙂

With this being said, I’d suggest looking into Hypersigils and dedicating a notebook to just that and nothing else. This might be the closest thing to the thing being asked (with that said the above should be considered while creating said hypersigil).
