if ur worried about your content going on this-isnt-magic or modernwitchtips then maybe don’t share your practice on the internet till you know it’s legit
‘Until it’s legit’ but …like okay, that’s such an open-ended stipulation though?
Besides that, having looked at this-isn’t-magic when it first got started, seems like a lot of the mods over there are either coming from a perspective of chaos magic, or else a young UBarWyTCH who thinks because they’ve been practicing since they were 16 they’re suddenly an authority on what constitutes ‘real magic’ and what doesn’t. The thing I haven’t heard anyone bring up yet is the difference(s) between 1) Sympathetic Magic (in which you designate something as something else and work magic on it that way) 2) Folk Magic and Hearthcraft, 3) Pop Culture Magic and 4) Entity creation. Literally these are some of the categories I’ve seen them say aren’t ‘magic’, like someone tracing sigils and intent into their food while they’re cooking. Newsflash: that’s magic, because that’s what it’s intended to be. If you intend a practice or an action to be magical, I’m of the opinion that it is.
So blogs like this-isn’t-magic cater to these elitist ‘you have to have LuNAR elaborate RytUal during the third full moon of the year at three PM when jupiter is ascending past the third quarter and you have to be outside skylad walking widdershins at a crossroads in a circle’ bullshit. Firstly, not everyone has time for that-nor do they practice that way, nor is it always safe to. Not everyone can afford to have an awesome wand made of 100 year old rowan wood; some people have to settle for a fuking pixie stick they got at Party City. Especially a lot of younger, poorer witches or witches that may be in the closet. And there’s nothing wrong with that.
‘If you don’t want this-isn’t-magic to get ahold of your spells GIT GUD’ is … frankly ridiculous. My first spells were done at the kitchen table when my parents weren’t home with a dollar store tealight and some fukin’ dill and sage. And you know what? Of course it didn’t work, because I was new to it, but it was part of the learning process because I didn’t understand things like intent and willpower and other powers either; like divine power, elemental power, ect ect. The key component to a practice? Study. Learning. and, again, intent.
I’m about to be 35 and I’ve been a practicing witch literally since I was 12/13. When I turned 16 I was classically mentored by a huge and well-known coven in San Francisco with a lot of elder witches from across a broad spectrum of traditions. So if you want a ‘witch’, I’m right fucking here…
… And I’m here to tell all the witches that follow me and will follow me that you do spells and magic however you’re able and with whatever power and intent and focus works for you. And don’t be afraid to share them if that’s what you’re called to do, just because a few trolls can’t handle ease, accessibility, and yes, even fun in the craft. Own your practice; witchcraft is about personal power, and you rock yours, and fuck what other people have to say about it.
i mean i don’t disagree w all this, i can just see both sides of the whole “witchcraft should be accessable” vs “witchcraft should take effort” debate. but like if you don’t wanna get shit on here, don’t post it unless ur ready to defend it
I can see both sides too; that doesn’t mean that I think everyone who posts a spell someone doesn’t agree with should be totally shit on. There’s a huge difference between constructive criticism and just being a total turd sandwich. And in my experience when it comes to critique of spell writing, there’s more of the latter than the former.
If you want to see ‘good’ witchblr, and if you’re going to complain that the spells, rituals, or magic practices aren’t up to your standard, then it’s going to take more effort than ‘your shit sucks lol not real majick’. Either take on the responsibility of actually helping people get better and be productive, or just sit down and shut the fuck up. There’s enough turds in the punch bowl at the tumblr party without anyone adding to the problem. If you’re not going to be a part of the solution and you’re just going to be a troll, you’re just contributing to afore mentioned shit show.
It’s not even about just helping people and learning… it’s about who gets to decide what is real/good magic.
I’ve been practicing for nearly two decades, have I seen stuff on witchblr that is completely foreign to me? Yes. Have I seen things that I would never include in my practice? Sure.
Do my two decades of experience in hearth craft (with a dabbling in formal Wicca at the beginning) give me the right to not only determine that these other kinds of magic are invalid, but to belittle and talk down to those who practice it? Absofuckinglutely not.
Fuck that bullshit blog, and fuck anyone who participates in it.
I mean you kinda made it already in your first post ❤ I just wanted to hone in on it more, because for myself personally… I think that’s really the key issue. More than just that bullshit blog, it’s a problem across the board on witchblr that I have seen.
No one gets to decide what witchcraft looks like for anyone else. Especially not in a random troll on the internet situation.
I went through all of my witchy supplies and shelves and have found a collection of neat things that no longer call to me the way they used to that I hope I can pass along to someone who will appreciate them more.
I am going to be doing this giveaway a little differently than I have seen others do. I do not need more followers than what I have now, so this is ONLY FOR THOSE WHO HAVE FOLLOWED ME BEFORE TODAY (7/17/2018). You all have stuck by me for an awfully long time and seen me grow personally as well as my practice and I love you forever for that.
Now for the rules!
1. You MUST have been following me before today (7/17/2018). Anyone who follows me after today will not be counted even if you do reblog this. The giveaway will END ON 8/18/2018 (ideally – see bottom). I will have announced the winner within THREE DAYS of the end date on 8/21/2018.
2. You MUST reblog this post but DO NOT tag as a giveaway. You all know the run down and I don’t want to get in trouble or want it blowing up in my face for doing a nice thing. If you do tag as a giveaway I will be forced to remove you and I don’t want to do that.
3. I reserve the right to refuse entry to anyone with problematic blog content. I do a great job usually of kicking people out as time goes on but I’m sure out of 1600+ I may have missed a couple. If there’s anything racist, anti-LGBTQ, pro-Trump or problematic in general that I see (or is reported to me with proof) I will not hesitate to disqualify and block you.
4. If you live outside the continental US (think Hawaii/UK/Brazil etc.) and win you must pay your own shipping and handling because I am not a rich woman and it tends to get very very pricey when sending items anywhere outside the country.
5. I am not responsible for the potential mishandling of this package by the USPS. I plan to pack everything as best I can to prevent leaking/breaking/etc. but I cannot plan on shitty carriers doing shitty things and I will NOT be able to replace anything that I send and for that I’m sorry!
6. I am NOT responsible for any kind of potential allergic reaction you may have to anything I have included, whether it’s the herbs, the perfume oils or essential oils. Please use your noggin and do your research and use wisely!
And finally, I am not counting this as a rule, but PLEASE cut this pregnant lady some slack. I live in a very HOT very MISERABLE very WILDFIRE PRONE part of California and if I am forced to evacuate with my 4 year old and husband and the other 3 members of our immediate family like I was last year, or have been hit with a very LOW SPOON week, I may have to extend the giveaway or cut it short by the time I have stated. I will do my best to get the package shipped within 2 weeks of the end date and if anything comes up will let you know as soon as I can.
Now for the fun part! THE GOODS.
From left to right we have 1 muslin bag filled with lemonbalm and 1 filled with holy basil, 1 driftwood candle holder, 1 brand new copy of The Witching Herbs by Harold Roth, 1 gently used copy of On the Edge of Dream: The Women of Celtic Myth and Legend by Jennifer Heath, 1 brand new hardback copy of Basic Witches by Jaya Saxena and Jess Zimmerman, 1 plastic egg I found hiking that contains a lucky penny, 1 dram bottles each of ginger and angelica root essential oils, 1 small bottle each of my very own homemade dandelion oil and rosemary tincture, 1 brass fairy pin/brooch, 1 nearly full roller bottle of Enchantress (lilac and gooseberries like Yen from the Witcher), 1 nearly full roller bottle of Traveling Vardo’s Sif perfume (sweet cream and almond), 1 dram of PMS ease oil from the Inked Goddess, a miscellany of perfume samples from Traveling Vardo, Sage Goddess and Wild Witchery, a miscellany of tumbled stones, 1 velvet lined box I think is silver but might be pewter designed with roses, 1 8in Italian silver 9.25 chain, 1 carnelian beaded stretch bracelet, 1 silver plated stretch bracelet with red swarovski crystals, 1 rose quartz pendant, 1 set of butterfly wing earrings, 1 ear cuff, 3 tealights (one plain and 2 winter berry) and a cool ass collectible/decorative offering plate.
I used this for all of my blue stones for a bit.
Looks to be violet agate, obsidian arrowhead, agate, carnelian, citrine, calcite and a couple others I can’t recall.
Dragons’ Keep is sort of a sweet cinnamon musk, Nomad is an herby earthy blend, Hexe is a very strong bitter herb blend, Witches Brew is a bright herb blend and Elder Council is some seriously dark herby business.
I hope the egg brings you luck too!
The butterfly wings were humanely collected here locally.
Good luck everyone! All of my love!
Because I’ve not had too many people enter this giveaway I figured I’d open it up for EVERYONE today. Plus I can’t remember who was following me before the date I listed, too, because my memory is absolute poo.
So go for it! One last 24 hours open to all real accounts who follow me. 🙂
*inspired by the necklace Izzy wears that alerts her to the presence of someone with demon blood*
Needed: – Red and Silver Candles – The Thing you are charming to be your sensor. I recommend a pendant or necklace you wear daily – Juniper Incense or diffused oil
Steps: – Light your candles and set up your incense/oil. – Take your item and establish what its natural state is. This is its resting state, which means that nothing is a foot. – Now take the item and establish what it will do/ look like when something isn’t right. With a pendant, this could be it flipped over or twisted on the chain. – Reset it to its natural state, and wave it over the candle flames, then through the smoke or mist from your Incense/ diffused oil. – Hold it in your hands and focus on the two states, give it direct orders on which is which, and what and when it is to alert you. – Wave it again over the candle flames and through the smoke/mist. – Blow out your candles, and set your Sensor to work.
