Net Neutrality: Was Your Name Was Used in Fake FCC Comments?

fullmetal-milk-hating-shorty:

There’s been reports about how, and I quote, “21.7 million public comments supporting the rule change were likely faked. The amount of fraudulent comments is staggering, but also necessarily surprising. To recap:

THEY ARE USING BOTS TO SUPPORT THE DEATH OF NET NEUTRALITY!

The Attorney General is looking to, and I quote, “corrupt the FCC’s notice and comment process.“ In other words:

WE MIGHT JUST HAVE A CHANCE TO FIGHT BACK!

Everybody, read this article carefully, and reblog this post like there is no tomorrow! The whole world must know about this!

Net Neutrality: Was Your Name Was Used in Fake FCC Comments?

wearepjocrazy:

Guys

Don’t send emails using layouts to the FCC

They’re ignoring those ones, calling them ‘scams’ and ‘fake’

Don’t send emails using bots to the FCC

They’re calling them ‘spam’ and ‘not made by real people’

Don’t customize the layouts. Write your own from scratch. It takes a long time, but don’t take someone else’s. The FCC will ignore it. Make yours with you own words. Use everyday speech. Don’t worry about formality, if you got your grammar right and your tone correct, you’re good.

Send them emails:

The 2 no votes:

Mignon.Clyburn@fcc.gov

Jessica.Rosenworcel@fcc.gov

The 2 yes votes:

Brendan.Carr@fcc.gov

Mike.O’Rielly@fcc.gov

The Chairman:

Ajit.Pai@fcc.gov

You can use your main email, a side email you might have, your parent’s email (if they allow that).

Remember to address THEIR stance on it – whether or not they support or reject keeping NN. Make sure you address YOUR stance and why you need it.

This isn’t a time to think about the fanfics and fanart. This isn’t a time to think about the fandoms, this is a time to think about the jobs. The schools. The hospitals. The ones in poverty, the ones hanging on the edge of the unemployment rate. The homeless, the jobless. The ones with needs, who can’t get out of the house and has to rely on the internet to order necessities like food, hygienics, clothing, and even medication.

It’s tempting to think of our fandoms. Without nn this blog goes dark, no more PJO posts other than what I manage to put in the queue (and even that will run out). No more Ponaa, MCGA, etc. But I can live without that – I can’t live without my school. NN being destroyed will destroy my future in education.

It’s time to take action if you haven’t. Send someone to them, if not for yourself than for the rest of the 320 million or so Americans.

REMINDER THAT GETTING RID OF NET NEUTRALITY WILL HURT:

– SMALL BUSINESSES

How will they be able to advertise things when they’re just starting out, and how many people will be able to see it? How many people will be willing to buy things online if they already have to pay for access to the site?

– SCHOOLS

Any school with computers will have to pay money for internet access. Otherwise students won’t be able to work on any projects in class, and they will have to rely on home internet access. Lots of school funding will be used for paying this!

– PEOPLE SEEKING MEDICAL/FINANCIAL AID ONLINE

It is common on this site and on many others to see people asking for aid. Imagine what will happen to these people if they have to pay to go onto this site, and imagine how many people will see their posts. Imagine how many people will still have the money to help them.

– STUDENTS

Any kind of research paper will be a pain to write, regardless of your grade level. I have to turn in almost all of my homework online, and nothing is allowed to be handwritten. This will make college more expensive, too, and that’s already too much for anyone to pay for without student loans.

– ANYONE LOOKING FOR A JOB ONLINE

Nobody wants to pay an extra $50 dollars a month to sign up for job applications. It is also standard to have an email, so if you no longer have access to it, that can cost you a job, even if you aren’t signing up for it online.

– ARTISTS

Many artists already have trouble getting people to buy commissions. A lack of exposure and a lack of money will not help.

– YOUTUBERS

I don’t really go on youtube anymore, but I know for a fact that this will effect the amount of views (and therefore the amount of money) they’ll get for their videos. This will effect youtubers worldwide, and the U.S. is filled with tons of viewers!

– PEOPLE WITH MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES

Lots of people rely on the internet to vent or to escape. Imagine if they were suddenly told that they aren’t able to do that anymore. Imagine what will happen if they’re suddenly cut off from their friends online.

– LIBRARIES

Libraries would have to put even more funding into internet access, and if they can’t pay for it, it will be a serious inconvenience to many, many people. People who go to the library to use the computers often don’t have a computer at home.

Call the FCC and senators. Write an email. Send a letter. DO SOMETHING.

amplified-sanders-sides:

Everyone! Important information!

I’ve been hard at work this morning to spread the news about net neutrality. In case you don’t know what net neutrality is, let me fill you in.

Imagine a world in which the government can limit what you can and can’t access on the internet. Imagine a world in which you must pay individually for internet access, the device on which you access the internet, access to video, to social media, news, email, etc. Imagine a world in which individual companies such as Verizon and AT&T can charge you whatever they want for this access. Imagine a world in which they determine what you can access.

Sounds pretty bad, right? Thankfully, a little thing called net neutrality prevents this from happening.

Except they’re voting to repeal it on December 14th.

The internet as we know it could disappear, unless we take action now! Email and call your local Senators! Spam them. You can see a list of the three people whose vote we need to change to “no” to prevent this from being repealed by checking out the posts I’ve reblogged or by searching net neutrality here on Tumblr.

I encourage you to come up with your own reasons for why net neutrality should not be replaced. They have released statements implying they will only consider emails and calls with new information or perspectives.

Please guys. If you like your fandoms, please please please email the heck out of your representatives.

Also note: Tumblr.com is owned by Yahoo which is owned by Verizon. Verizon is one of the biggest supporters of the repeal of Net Neutrality.

This means Tumblr is actively working to prevent the spread of posts like this. It is un-following people from the net neutrality tag. It is deleting posts.

If you’re not sure what to send, here’s the email I sent Mike O’Rielly.

DO NOT COPY THIS EMAIL. THEY WILL NOT CONSIDER REPEAT EMAILS.

Mr. O’Rielly,

I am well aware that you are being flooded with emails at this point in time, but I’d like you to take a short moment to consider mine. Sir, this is about more than money. This about people’s lives. The internet provides access to suicide, abuse, trauma, and victim resources for hundreds of thousands of people. Many of them would lose these resources due to financial reasons if net neutrality were to be repealed. Sir, your vote of no on December 14th can save the victims, the hurt, the wounded, the sorrowful, the discriminated, and all those who draw upon online resources and communities to keep going. I personally know that many online resources such as Calm.com and 7 Cups of Tea have kept me from hurting myself both physically and emotionally on numerous occasions. I have many friends who have found solace in online communities on websites like Tumblr.com. For some of them, said communities prevented their suicide. But I can speak for each and every one of us and say that we would not be able to afford access to these sites if net neutrality was repealed.

I would also like to bring to your attention the suffering of self-employed social media content creators and small businesses. Social media platforms such as YouTube and Instagram have become a livelihood for many young people. Their paychecks are determined by the amount of views they received and followers they have, either directly or indirectly. If net neutrality was repealed, their online traffic would surely decline. The entire business they had created could very easily cease to exist, leaving them in the dust with no money to pay the bills. Once again, Mr. O’Rielly, people’s lives are in your hand. Are you willing to take the risk of leaving these young people destitute? Some small businesses also require the Internet to thrive. Take sites like Etsy.com for example. Many people will craft handmade goods and sell them online on this website and other sites like it. Once again, people can only buy these goods if they can access them.

Mr. Mike O’Rielly, I beg of you. Vote no. Keep net neutrality. These are just two examples of many reasons why the free internet is imperative to our modern world. I give you my fullest respect, but know that if you vote yes and net neutrality is repealed, I will hold you personally responsible for the effects. It’s in your hands Mr. O’Rielly. Nobody is going to make this decision for you. Consider the millions of people sending in emails and making phone calls. Consider the effects of repealing net neutrality. Consider all of this, and then make your decision.

Choose wisely.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Harriet Bowles
