“it’s just a parking lot”

exactly. there’s nothing there. not a statue. not a plaque. nothing.

[drives over hitler’s death site]

Bloody amazing.

And you know what’s right next to it?

That’s right, the Denkmal für die ermordeten Juden, which translates to the Memorial for the murdered jews.

So if you wanna go have a look at the monument commemorating the victims of Hitler’s regime, you can park your car right on the spot he died and walk there.

Makes ya think, doesn’t it?

Germany gets why you shouldn’t have monuments to your bad points in history.

But try explaining to Americans they have bad points in their history.

Well part of it is that we also didn’t have, you know, HITLER

Not to like, compare tragedies or something, because horrible things in human history don’t need a measuring contest, but you know, slavery is uhhhhhh bad

Hawaii Becomes the First State to Pass a Bill in Support of Universal Basic Income

Innovation and forward-thinking may be Hawaii’s two biggest exports
in 2017. Earlier this month, the state earned the distinction of being
the first in the U.S. to formally accept the provisions
of the Paris Climate Agreement after President Donald Trump decided to
withdraw the nation from it, and now, Hawaii is taking the lead in
embracing yet another innovative idea: universal basic income (UBI).

Today, Hawaii state representative Chris Lee wrote a Reddit post about House Concurrent Resolution 89,
a bill he says he introduced in order to “start a conversation about
our future.” According to Lee, “After much work and with the help of a
few key colleagues, it passed both houses of the State Legislature
unanimously.”

The bill has two major provisions. First, it declares that all families
in Hawaii are entitled to basic financial security. “As far as I’m told,
it’s the first time any state has made such a pronouncement,” wrote
Lee. The second provision establishes a number of government offices “to
analyze our state’s economy and find ways to ensure all families have
basic financial security, including an evaluation of different forms of a
full or partial universal basic income.”

Have to remember to reblog the good news posts. I hope this is a rock that starts an avalanche.

your monsters aren’t as numerous as they want you to think. take away the veil, you’ll find a person pretending to be an army. you’re stronger than they are.

Sooo my friend is going to rip me off this summer by only paying me basically $2 an hour to babysit her 10-year-old sister ($20 bucks a day, for anywhere from 10-12 hours). I agreed to this before I knew what I was getting into (bc I trusted someone who was a close friend, who was a babysitter herself, to pay me fairly, whoops i guess). My mom got pissed immediately bc well, her daughter is geting ripped off. And when I confronted my friend about it she gave me several excuses as to why I basically just have to deal with it (‘my mom is broke and can’t pay you so only I’m paying’ ‘Since I’m paying you and I’m only making $300 a week, you’ll be getting $100 of that bc I don’t wanna give you more bc then I won’t be making bank even if I’m paying you fairly’ ’it barely takes effort to watch my sister so I’m pretty much paying you for nothing’) yeah i bolded that last statement bc that is her main argument. She thinks it takes zero effort to take care of another human being for 12 hours five days a week so I don’t deserve more? I guess?

Anyway, the reason I haven’t backed out already is bc I have shitty friends and not enough self esteem to get rid of them, so she will definitely immediately talk shit about me to all of her friends (who are also my friends) until they are all on her side and hate me. This isn’t even a worse case scenario anxiety induced fear. This shit has happened before (I really should learn, huh).

And of course if I do it, I’ll be miserable as fuck wasting the summer my mom told me I didn’t have to get a job for (I usually intern at her job, which didn’t pay me at all, so babysitting is a step up, right? Right?) since it’ll be my last summer before I gotta do college things.

My solution: witchcraft.

If that doesn’t work: I don’t know what the fuck to do. I already decided that I will never speak to these people again, once I’ve left highschool and will no longer be forced to see them. Maybe I’ll just deal with that earlier. Fuck

Hmm so I’ve done some magic, who’s results I should be seeing within a week. If it backfires or works out differently than how I planned it (I planned how I worded this very meticulously though, so I hope not) then I suppose I will just destroy a friendship I didn’t very much like anyway. Gotta see the bright side, right?

Solution time: my wonderful mother told me to just use her as an excuse for why I’m no longer allowed to babysit for cheap as shit pay. Thanks mom!

Watching my friends complain that there’s no white history month or men’s month is just so… ugh

I think I’m making headway? By explaining therewould be a difference between white history month and months about specific heritage, like, say Irish history month or something

Obviously there is some irritating ignorance in what they’re saying but I kind of understand what I think they want is a culture of their own to celebrate (?) so I think saying like celebrate your Italian culture, etc is getting through to them.

Omg I just realized the funniest part is that they immediately dropped any argument about a “men’s day” like we spent fifteen minutes talking only about culture but as soon as I said there’s no men’s day bc men have controlled women in almost all of history, boom, never mentioned again.
