Made this because of yet another Tumblr fiasco! Im a queer witch trying to find a new home that offers the same quirkyness as tumblr. But without the problems :)
So long as they aren’t claiming that their view is the One True Representation of a deity, there is nothing wrong with someone viewing a deity as a representation of their sexuality, romantic orientation, or gender.
No harm is being done by aro and ace people identifying with Artemis and seeing her as their protector.
No harm is being done by bi, pan, and other multi-spec people looking at Odin and thinking, “he’s like me.”
No harm is being done by trans people feeling a connection with Loki because they feel like he, too, defies a rigid gender binary.
Etc., etc., etc.
Deities don’t fit into neat boxes. We as their followers are allowed to see ourselves in them.
Making deity shrines in Minecraft and the Sims is really underrated tbh.
I remember a while back it was super popular, but then people came out of the woodwork to shit on it and say shit like, “if you have time to waste on games, you have time to ‘actually’ devote to your gods,” and it was such bullshit.
Taking time to create something is a valid and valuable offering. Doesn’t really matter if it’s virtual.
And, shit, if you want to talk about sacrifice, including a lava pit as part of a Minecraft shrine and sacrificing diamonds? Good-ass offering.
My experience has been whenever someone makes a shrine online or in a game (or in some other intangible way) someone shows up to shit on it because it’s not “real” and “actual shrines require effort” like have they ever tried to build anything in a game like Minecraft it can take a ton of resources and time that someone devotes specifically to their deities, ancestors, or other entities.
exactly. there’s nothing there. not a statue. not a plaque. nothing.
[drives over hitler’s death site]
Bloody amazing.
And you know what’s right next to it?
That’s right, the Denkmal für die ermordeten Juden, which translates to the Memorial for the murdered jews.
So if you wanna go have a look at the monument commemorating the victims of Hitler’s regime, you can park your car right on the spot he died and walk there.
Makes ya think, doesn’t it?
Germany gets why you shouldn’t have monuments to your bad points in history.
But try explaining to Americans they have bad points in their history.
Well part of it is that we also didn’t have, you know, HITLER
Not to like, compare tragedies or something, because horrible things in human history don’t need a measuring contest, but you know, slavery is uhhhhhh bad
Pardon my French, but I’m getting the feeling that JK Rowling stole our magick, our traditions, our tools, and our practices only to completely shit on, deny respect, and even refuse to acknowledge from where she stole it.
1: These were in the news in like what..2014 and 2016 and in the second one the man blatantly said if a Harry Potter fan came in looking for a wand he would refuse to sell them one. I know plenty of real witches who started with things like Harry Potter and The Craft..
2: Witchcraft has been around alot longer than Wicca. ALOT LONGER. She didnt steal anything. Witchcraft is an open practice that can be adapted. If anything she made it more normalized in the media.
